　It has become Japanese traditional culture to think about an aim of one year on New Year's Day and look back on one year on New Year's Eve while hearing ringing bells .
　Syushin Gido(1325-1388) of Nanzenji Temple said in his book "Kuge-nichiyo-kubu-ryakusyu No.2",
　"The plan for the New Year is to plant seeds of grain.
　The plan of the decade is to plant seeds of tree.
　The plan of 100 years is to plant seeds of virtue.
　Virtue is the thing the person should plant seeds of."
　Zensyo Kamada says in his book "Daily power"(Kyoiku-shincho-sha), "Virtue is 'the thing to light up the corner'."
　Saicho the initiator of the Tendai school of Buddhism said, "What is the national treasure? The treasure is 'Do-shin', the heart that is going to master truth. We call a person who has the heart a national treasure.
A person lighting up the corner is the national treasure. ("Sange-gakusyo-shiki")
　"Do-shin" is the heart to make an effort for improvement and progress on each way. We call the person who has "Do-shin" and the person whose existence is the light in each field in an social corner a national treasure. (Syoan Kojima "Plow the heart", Sojiji Publishing division)
　Saicho says, "Ten large jewel in not the national treasure, but a person lighting up a corner is the national treasure." (Kodo Matsunami "Way of the Buddhism life", Nihon-bungei-sha).
　This is from Chinese historical facts. The king of "Qi" is asked by the king of "Wei", "There are ten matchless treasures in "Wei", but how about your country?". The king of "Qi" answered, "There are excellent retainers lighting up the corner in my country, and they are the treasure". Saicho knew this historical fact. I think the virtue is to become a light and light up a corner in life of each person.
　Three plans mean the aim of achievable short time, a slightly severe aim of a little long time and the aim of the ideal of a long time.
　I think they say "you need to think three kinds of plan." I want to think about the plan of "the virtue as the ideal way of life that lights up a corner" on New Year's Day.
